| Sister Cities |
| Widening our view of the world |
In November 1990 our sister city relationship
with the city of Mainburg in Bavaria, Germany
was started. And in August 1993 we closed
another sister city relationship with the
city of Greeley, Colorado in the USA.
Since then we have been building up a close
relationship with the inhabitants of both
cities by sending young people on home stay
programmes and by exchanges between the inhabitants
of our cities. We hope to strengthen this
relationship even further in the future and
thus to deepen the interest and the understanding
the population of our city feels for other
nationalities. |

A peaceful city surrounded by hop gardens
Mainburg is a small and very green city located
some 80 km from the city of Munich. The area
of the city comprises 23.8 square miles (61.7
square kilometers), almost twice that of
our city. However, with a population of only
13,000 space is abundant.
The Hallertau area where Mainburg is
situated
is famous for its hops which are said
to
rank among the best in the world. In
Moriya,
these hops are used by Asahi Breweries,
Ltd.
to brew their famous beer.
Mainburg and Moriya are linked by friendships
and exchanges. Several groups of visitors
and the Moriya soccer team have visited Mainburg
several times. Visitor groups including the
local judo team from Mainburg have been visiting
Moriya. |

The All American City
Greeley is situated in Weld County
in the
State of Colorado and has a population
of
approximately 60,000. It is a charming
place
with wide roads laid out in a chessboard
design.
Among the main features of the city are the
University of Northern Colorado with some
12,000 students, vocational schools with
some 12,000-15,000 students and a hospital
with a helicopter life saving service.
In 1990 the Moriya Home Stay Programme in
which students from Moriya get a chance to
visit Greeley and experience the warm welcome
of the town's population has been established.
